Berlin goes open-air
With average daytime temperatures of 23º C throughout June and July, it’s no surprise that Berlin has lots of open-air and outdoor fun to offer visitors throughout the summer. From cinema and theatre to music festivals and beer gardens, Berlin has it all. And we’ve put together a sample of some of our favourite things to do in the open air!
If you fancy seeing a film on a warm summer’s evening, then check out •Freiluftkino for the programmes from the major open-air cinemas in Berlin. The cinema in Kreuzberg regularly shows films in their original language with German subtitles and all have a mix of blockbusters and arthouse, new and classic films.
Fancy a cool and refreshing Kristalweizen beer after a hot day? Then why not head to one of Berlin’s many beer gardens or beach bars such as •Prater in Prenzlauer Berg, •Brachvogel in Kreuzberg or •Strandbar Mitte near Hackescher Markt! You can laze on a deckchair, have a game of mini-golf and even enjoy the feel of sand between your toes in the middle of the city!
For open air music, how about •Classic Open Air which has been running since 1992 and sees the Gendarmenmarkt host outstanding classical concerts from July 3rd onwards. The •Berlin Festival at Tempelhof Airport runs on the 7th and 8th of August and has a line-up featuring Jarvis Cocker, Pete Docherty, Peaches and Saint Etienne. •Popdeurope is also organising an open-air summer music festival running from 26.7 to 06.08, starring artists from all over the world and music ranging from reggae to rap. Berlin’s got all bases covered!
