Berlin in 3D

This is your chance to “visit” Berlin with no carbon emissions! Google Earth (version 4) now has a third-party layer that shows central Berlin in amazing detail. Not just the gray 3D geometric forms, but real facades, trees, and even some interiors, such as the Friedrichstr. train station. Download the layer at this •website and let the Google servers run hot by constructing downtown Berlin for you on your screen.

The whole program take a bit to get set up and you'll need a broadband connection and a good graphics card to run, but then...wow! It started out with only the historical centre, but has since expanded to include Kreuzberg, Schöneberg, Charlottenburg and other districts. More information about the Berlin 3D model and from other cities can be found on the •Google Earth blog or in this •Spiegel article.
