DOS Conference 2011

DOS Conference 2011Maintaining the nautical theme of 2010’s IH World Director of Studies’ Conference (hosted on HMS Belfast), this year's gathering of approximately 100 DoSes took place in Greenwich, home of the Cutty Sark and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). So, even though we weren’t afloat this year, we were never far from the water!

This year’s roster of guest speakers included luminaries of the ELT/ELF world such as Scott Thornbury, Jeremy Harmer, Guy Cook and Lindsay Clandfield. The overarching theme was “On trend. What’s hot and what’s not in language teaching today?” and individual speakers and sessions considered this in relation to teaching methodology, technology and resources. Personal IH Berlin favourites included Jamie Keddie (of •TEFLClips.com fame) asking “How do YouTube?”, Antonia Clare and Frances Eales of Pearson Longman exploring the use of authentic video resources in the classroom and Guy Cook’s session, “Coming back in from the Cold: translation in language teaching”.

Sticking to IH Berlin PROLOG's tradition, we sent three delegates to the conference: Felix Breitkreuz, Sebastian Taylor and Anja Grüneberg. All three would like to say a big thank you to everyone at IH World Organisation for the amazing conference! For anyone who couldn’t attend, there is a selection of videos of conference sessions on •the International House website.
