Levelling just got more efficient at IH PROLOG
Since the beginning of 2010, IH Berlin PROLOG has offered a new levelling test for German as a Foreign Language or, better said, a new method for determining the linguistic competency of new students.
Instead of our earlier system - taking our placement test on the first day of courses at the school – every course participant can now take an online test that does an even better job of determining their language level well before the first day of class. And the test can be taken from the comfort of the student’s home computer.
The procedure is very easy. Once a student has registered for a course, they receive an email from us which contains a link giving them direct access to the language test. The online test contains six short texts with missing words that need to be filled in. The student has a total of 30 minutes to do this. The difficulty of the exercise increases as the test progresses.
The response of our students has been extremely positive, with approximately 75% of them taking the test in advance of their arrival in Berlin. The new procedure has made Monday mornings, particularly during our high season, a much more relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone. We are sure that our students rather like the fact that they no longer have to take a test first thing in the morning on their first day with us!
