Modern Language Conference + EUROLTA
With our regular programme of courses, IH Berlin PROLOG offers classes in 16 different languages. As we are committed to teaching quality in our actions and not just our words, we have training seminars for all of our language teachers twice a month, once in German and once in English, as well as a programme of regular observation by senior teachers and teacher trainers. This means that our teachers, no matter which language they are teaching, have access to an unrivalled system of support, further training and expertise.
In order to help spread this practice throughout the International House network, a group of •Modern Language Coordinators (MLCs) were established in 2006 to offer support to groups of language teachers around the world. There are MLCs for 6 languages and IH Berlin PROLOG’s Jody Wohmann is the MLC for German. In addition, the Modern Languages Conference has become a feature of the conference calendar. In total, over 120 participants from IH schools and external organisations attended the event which made it the largest ever!
This year’s conference took place at IH London from November 6th to 7th and saw Jody, together with Derek Cary, IH Berlin PROLOG’s Assistant Director of Studies for English, giving •presentations on teaching and training related topics, and Svetlana Gushinskaya, a Russian teacher at IH PROLOG also attended. Derek introduced our new •EUROLTA training courses for foreign language teachers and has sparked interest from other IH schools.

EUROLTA has also been a hot topic here in Berlin. Our first kick-off event in the offices of the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Science and Research attracted teachers of ten different languages who came together to hear about the course and take part in four mini-seminars which allowed them to experience a little of EUROLTA in a hands-on way. On 11.12.2009, we are hosting a second informative event here at IH Berlin PROLOG and are excited about bringing so many teachers of so many different languages together to learn, develop and have fun at the same time!
