Summer events in Berlin

OberbaumbrueckeSummer is not just high-season at International House Berlin PROLOG, it’s also a season chock-full of events and happenings all across the city. There’s no better time to learn a language, explore Europe’s most exciting capital and broaden your horizons!

On August 1st one of Berlin’s most famous bridges, the Oberbaumbrücke, will once again transform into a hustling, bustling •open air art gallery. Up to 20,000 visitors will be able to visit the exhibition, meet artists, make their own works of art and dance the afternoon away on a specially erected tango stage. Later in the month, on 28 August, one of the annual highlights of the summer takes place. •The 27th Long Night of Museums will see more than 100 museums and galleries open their doors from 18:00 until 02:00, with visitors able to follow designated routes and hop on and off special shuttle buses as they make their way from one location to the next.

Sandsation, the world’s leading sand carving event, returns to Berlin until August 29, with competitive and collaborative works from the foremost masters of the art of sand who will all be vying to be crowned world champion. If you like world championships, how about the world-famous •Pyronale (September 3-4)IFA, the Fireworks World Championships which gathers the international elite of pyrotechnicians for a weekend of spectacular music and choreographed fireworks. •The world’s largest trade fair for consumer electronics, IFA, also hits town from September 3-8. If you want to find out about the latest in gadgets and technology, there’s no better place to be!

September starts with a musical vibe as the •Berlin Music Week (September 6-12) takes over the city. There are club nights, concerts, mini-festivals and a major festival on September 10-11 at the now defunct Tempelhof Airport with headlining acts, such as Fatboy Slim, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and many more. There might not be any planes taking off from Tempelhof nowadays, but there will definitely be a large crowd flying high that weekend!
